One of our entries to our EXTREME WEB MAKEOVER contest has specified one of the reasons for a web makeover would be to optimize viral promotion more….

What is viral promotion? Viral promotion, viral marketing or indeed viral advertising refer to marketing techniques that use existing social networks to create brand awareness or increase sales. The use of video clips, messages, images, eBooks, brandable software and much more can be used to promote a business or a brand through social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Reddit , Ning, Flickr , Blogs like WordPress (to name just a few). This is achieved virally by sharing of information..

When something “goes viral” it essentially means that the information, news, image, video, promotion you have created is shared via social networks and even e-mail/text by many people… how do you as a small business achieve these useful marketing techniques?

It can be fairly easy to take the first steps into viral promotion…the first thing I would recommend doing is to use the SHARE icons on your website or blog. You often see blog posts or websites that incorporate share icons for Facebook, Twitter etc. This should be one of your priorities- it makes it easier for visitors to your blog or website to share your information..

On the website www.southshorenow.ca which is home to our newspapers, you will see how we have incorporated the Facebook and Twitter icons into every page of our website in the header. This allows our visitors to share any page with anyone in the world via these two social networking sites- it helps our web traffic!
